The Céron park saman

This saman, or rain tree, used to shelter coffee and cacao plantations. It comes from the Habitation Céron park (an old sugar plantation from the seventeenth century), and is registered as one of the largest trees in the Lesser Antilles. A protective tree, which itself is protected from the weather: it has survived all of the cyclones of the island, as well as a mortal volcanic eruption of the “Montagne Pelée” in 1902.
